Cattle Dock

Description (long)

A cattle dock is a loading platform specifically designed to facilitate the loading / unloading of livestock such as cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. The platforms of cattle docks were usually higher than platforms used by passengers. This allowed livestock to walk between livestock wagons and the dock platform via level or gently-sloping temporary ramps. Cattle docks usually included livestock pens to keep the animals together and to prevent them escaping and causing havoc.
