Structure / Site Summary for 230801

Hellifield (NWR) Station / Hellifield Goods Station

Until June 1st 1880, Hellifield was served by a tiny country station that was operated by the North Western Railway (NWR) and accessed via Haw Lane.

When the new Hellifield Station (SCRCA site 231281) opened approximately a quarter of a mile to the west, passenger trains stopped calling at the old station. However, the goods yard remained in use for local goods traffic, so the old station was renamed Hellifield Goods Station.

The old station buildings were demolished some time around 1966.

There are no extant structures associated with the old station and it lies outside the boundary of the Settle-Carlisle Railway Conservation Area, so individual demolished structures are not being included in the SCRCA Project database.

Please note that this station is closed - i.e. it is no longer served by passengers trains. There is no public access to the site, although it is partially visible from Haw Lane. The site now appears to be used for grazing and / or other agricultural purposes.

Tips: This structure is located approximnately at the centre of the map below at the pointed end of the red marker. To adjust the scale of the map, either click on the [+] and [-] buttons (if Google has displayed these in the top-left corner of the map) or double-click your mouse buttons anywhere in the map area: left button = [+] = zoom-in, right button = [-] = zoom out). To 'pan' (move) the map, hold-down the left mouse button, then move the mouse. To open an information bubble containing brief details of the structure, left-click on the red marker. Please note that the position of the marker is approximate because Google keeps moving the map (yes, really!).
