AS FEATURED ON THE NEW SERIES OF ITV’s – ‘THE DALES’ TO BE BROADCAST IN MARCH

The popular steam hauled ‘Fellsman’ returns to the spectacular Settle to Carlisle railway in 2012 for its fourth summer season, running every Wednesday over the roof of England – with great limestone peaks and deep valleys the legendary ‘Settle to Carlisle’ line is a masterpiece of Victorian engineering including the great 24 arched viaduct at Ribblehead, with time available for sightseeing in Carlisle, or an optional tour of the Lake District by vintage coach and cruise on Ullswater.

The train is steam hauled throughout and the locomotive will be chosen from the pool of historic engines based at Carnforth including: LMS Royal Scot 46115 ‘Scots Guardsman’ - LMS Stanier 8F 48151 - LMS Jubilee 5690 ‘Leander’ – LMS Stanier Black Five 44932.

The Settle & Carlisle line is known for its magnificent scenery and steep gradient so our engine will be working hard as we climb to the magnificent Ribblehead Viaduct with stunning views of the three peaks. Passengers will get a marvellous view as the train emerges from Blea Moor Tunnel into Dent Dale and approaching Garsdale you will see sweeping views of Wensleydale - with the engine in full flight we climb at 1 in 100 towards the summit of the line. Travelling on through the lush Eden valley we continue to the historic border city of Carlisle where there is a sightseeing stop of up to two hours.

Returning from Carlisle mid afternoon and following a photographic and water stop at Appleby we travel over the same spectacular route giving another opportunity to experience the beauty of the high Pennines.

New for 2012 – We are pleased to offer an optional tour by vintage 1950’s coach departing from Appleby for a journey through the spectacular and tranquil Lake District to Glenridding for an hour’s cruise on England’s most beautiful lake, Ullswater. Nestling below Helvellyn offering panoramic vistas we sail over the full length of the lake to Pooley Bridge for a return by coach to Appleby. This tour must be pre-booked as seating is strictly limited.
