First Shanty Site visit

Ribblehead: Footsteps in Time

Our first Railway builders and shanty site event of 2025 jwas a huge success on Wednesday21st.

The happy group of walkers were treated to unusually dry terrain and a warm wind free day at Ribblehead. A visiting group of children to our exhibition were stunned to learn that girls their age worked long hours in the brickworks  and boys were working on menial tasks  in all weather.

The return  of the popular outdoor theatre at Batty Green gave a lively performance on the ups and downs of life in 1970 for the railway builder and his family. The settle graveyard theatre group will be performing at St Leonard’s church on 18th June for our Navvy Hike.

The next free event is the exciting new Limestone botany on 4th June when we are joined by Leeds botanical artist Selina Thorp. Details out soon.
