We celebrate 150 years of the Settle -Carlisle line by remembering the labourers of the railway workers who built it ; men women and children. Many from Ribblehead are buried here at Saint Leonards but this is in memory of all those who were employed in providing the scenic line through the dales, and on to Carlisle, that we still love today.

As part of this and in memory of all those employed on the Ribblehead section, FoSCL Footsteps in Time worked with the Church and the diocese permission to have a specialist clean on the gravestone of Job Hirst by local stone masons. Discover who he was on May3rd and his importance to the building of the line and the iconic viaduct. The inscription can now be read along with the original Masons mark.
