THE FRIENDS OF THE SETTLE CARLISLE LINE AND THE SETTLE CARLISLE RAILWAY TRUST INVITE YOU to take part in a celebration of the life and interests of Dr John Disney, a passionate walker, rural transport campaigner and supporter of the Settle Carlisle Railway. Events are FREE of charge and include a choice of:

THREE GUIDED WALKS  and led by volunteer walk leaders of Friends of the Settle Carlisle Line and our colleagues, Friends of DalesBus. Please bring a packed lunch and suitable footwear / clothing for the day.

Stainforth Force*: Settle - Ribble Way - Stainforth Force - Feizor - Austwick : 8 miles  Moderate: Commencing at Settle Station 1022 on arrival of the Leeds train and return from Austwick at 1512 to Settle using the 581 service bus (fare payable). We reserve the right to vary or shorten the route depending on the party. Leaders: John Carey, John Langford, Chris Grogan and Duncan Ward.

Settle Circular*: Settle - Stainforth -  Smearsett Scar - Feizor - Stackhouse - Settle:  10 miles  Moderate Strenuous. Commencing at Settle Station 1022 on arrival of the Leeds train. Leaders: Bob and Lindy Clark.

Malham to Settle: Malham - Pikedaw Hill - Stockdale Lane - Settle:  8 miles  Moderate Strenuous (Friends of DalesBus). Please take the 0945 (No 75) service bus from Skipton Bus Station to Malham (fare payable).  The walk will commence from Malham NPC car park at 1030 and return from Settle by bus or train. A SHORT HISTORICAL WALK AROUND SETTLE with Ruth Evans commencing at 1330 from outside the Naked Man Café,  looking at some of the interesting buildings and finding out about their history. In addition the walk will feature a visit to the Settle Station Water Tower where owner Mark Rand will talk about the restoration project before proceeding to the Royal Oak.

AT 1545 THERE WILL BE A RECEPTION AT THE ROYAL OAK, SETTLE open to ALL who wish to take part where we will say a few words to remember John followed by a buffet provided by Friends of the Settle Carlisle Line and the Settle & Carlisle Railway Trust. The event is expected to conclude in time to catch the 1759 southbound train to Leeds.
