Good news! This is the short path up to the down platform from the main road. People have been complaining about this for years and it's great that it looks as though something will finally be done about it.
There is a very good tarmac path from the up platform and main station building down to the town of Kirkby Stephen. It's a mile or so down into the town and takes about 20 minutes to walk.
