Ribblehead clock stops

At 10:36 this morning the clock stopped at Ribblehead Visitor Centre - but this time it wasn't an unexpected failure but a planned event! Work began today on damp proofing the entire West elevation to address chronic problems of water ingress.  The porous stone and exposed site have been a problem ever since the station was built.

A dry lining system is being installed by Lancashire Damp Proofing similar to one we recently installed at Horton-in-Ribblesdale station. The preparatory work and re-decorating on completion is being done entirely by volunteers. With a ten-year warranty it will free the RVC from unsightly damp and mould patches and enhance the property considerably.

The work is entirely financed by S&C Railway Properties Ltd. from the modest surplus generated from our holiday properties at Kirkby Stephen station and Station Master's House at Ribblehead.

If all goes to plan the clock will click once more on Tuesday November 26th.
