Wednesday 7th May
Rocks and rails is a geology based free guided walk and tour of the features of the landscape. Discover how the area provided the raw materials for the building of the iconic Ribblehead viaduct as the navvies reshaped the land to create this main-line through the dales.
After an introductory talk at the visitor centre at 11am , we will visit the viaduct to discover the fossilised remains of creatures that lived here some 325 million years ago. They hide in plain sight amongst the black limestone building blocks of the viaduct.
Our walk to source the materials used by these Victorian engineers will leave at 12:30 . Please meet in the station yard from the lunchtime trains. The route takes us to Little-dale, with a lunch stop on the way, and to look at the railway features for the Midland line- now the LSC.
Further details and important information can be found in our leaflet from stations along the line and on the website.
We look forward to having you with us.
