We need more volunteers

Call for Volunteers

If you have recently retired or are thinking of what you’d like to do to help your community why not consider joining The Friends of the Settle Carlisle Line (FoSCL) volunteer team? We have 100+ volunteers mainly in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria but also from the South Coast of England, London, Derbyshire and Scotland.

We undertake a variety of interesting roles all of which support  the Settle Carlisle Line as follows:

  • Free Guided Walks from stations up and down the line
  • On Train Guides to help visitors appreciate the many features and facets of the line
  • Station Adopters who look after the gardens, furniture and heritage features
  • Signal Boxes with all the levers, bells and whistles at Armathwaite and Settle
  • Heritage Tours at the world famous Ribblehead Viaduct
  • Cafe at the Ribblehead Visitor Centre
  • Shops selling refreshments and railway memorabilia at Appleby and Settle Stations
  • Talks to local groups about FoSCL and how we support the line
  • A workshop where we can make and repair heritage items at the stations

If you are interested in any of these roles or have skills in woodwork, metalwork, signwriting or general construction trades please contact Jon Tomlinson – [email protected]

But equally importantly behind the scenes we also need people to undertake the following roles:

  • Assistant Treasurer looking after our shops and online retailing business
  • Assistant Treasurer for our rental property in Dent and leased building in Settle
  • Project Manager to help set up a new Company Limited by Guarantee

So if you’re up for an interesting role helping promote and support one of the best railway lines in the UK we would like to hear from you! These roles can be performed largely from home so don’t worry if you don’t live close to the line

Further details about the 3 roles above from Joanne Comption – [email protected]
